O "there" juntamente com o verbo to be forma o verbo haver. Há duas variações dele, que é "there is", que usamos para nos referir às coisas no singular, e o "there are" para se referir ao plural.
There is one car in my house. (Há um carro em minha casa)
There are five glasses over table. (Há 5 copos em cima da mesa)
Você sempre usa no sentido de "existir".
Caso queira formar interrogativa, apenas inverta, jogando o verbo to be para a frente da frase.
Is there one car in my house? (Há um carro em minha casa?)
Are there five glasses over table? (Há 5 copos em cima da mesa?)
Para responder:
"Yes, there is"
"Yes, there are"
Quando queremos negar, basta colocar o NOT na frente do verbo to be.
There is not car in my house. (Não há carro em minha casa)
There are not five glasses over table. (Não há 5 copos em cima da mesa)
Contrações:
There is+not = there isn't
There are+not = there aren't
There + is = There's
There+are = não se contrai
